Woman dies on flight from London to Newark

A 23-year-old New Jersey woman has died on a transatlantic flight from London to the United States, The UK Guardian reports. Flight attendants discovered the woman unconscious on flight UA115 from Heathrow at 8.30pm ET on Monday, just over an hour before it landed in Newark, New Jersey. A doctor on the plane had reportedly attempted to aid the woman, but she was almost immediately pronounced dead, according to Port Authority police spokesperson Joe Pentangelo. The flight landed at 9.45pm, and a medical examiner arrived on the scene by 11pm, Pentangelo said. Medical examiners removed the body just before 11pm in Newark, and Port Authority detectives are investigating. Authorities on Tuesday were awaiting results of an autopsy. The body was not quarantined. Pentangelo said the woman was travelling alone and “reportedly had pre-existing medical conditions”. He did not elaborate. United Airlines spokesperson Charles Hobart said: “We offer our condolences to the passenger’s family” but declined to comment further for “privacy reasons”.
