Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State has called on Nigerians to work hard to ensure peace in the country irrespective of the current security and economic challenges. In a Christmas message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Eni Akinsola, and made available to our correspondent on Wednesday, Mimiko said people should seek peace through the inspiration of the purpose of Christ’s birth. He said, “We must realise that the essence of the coming of Jesus Christ is to reconcile mankind to God. And as reconciliation is a principal condition for peace, we must endeavour to reconcile ourselves with our country, love her more dearly and seek it’s peace at all times.” According to him, the country’s march towards greatness, though slowed down by its security challenges, is steady, adding that Nigeria’s movement to greatness will be faster if Nigerians show greater commitment to its peace. “We are moving forward as a country in spite of our challenges, yet our movements could be faster and our pace steadier if we champion the cause of peace and reconciliation as exemplified by the birth of Christ now being globally celebrated in Christmas day. “Either as Christians, Moslims or men and women of other faiths, the pursuit of peace is and should be a common goal. Celebrations should therefore be sober and be an opportunity for introspective reflections on the future of the country,” the Ondo Governor said. Mimiko also wished all citizens a merry Christmas and prosperous new year in advance.
