I love to be in love – Project Fame’s Ruky

First runner-up in 2014 edition of Project Fame,
Oghenerukevwe Olutu (Ruky), speaks on her experience, AKEEM LASISI writes Weeks after Oghenerukevwe Olutu ‘graduated’ from the Project Fame house, she is still savouring her experience. Although the artiste popularly called Ruky ended up as the first runner-up, losing the ultimate crest to Geofrey, she says the impact the experience has had on her career is phenomenal. The pretty graduate of Business Information System from the University of East London, Malaysia concedes that despite the fame it bestowed on her, it was not a tea party as the desire to get the gold was hot. Yet, it was a project she is happy to have been part of. Ruky explains, “It was very interesting and I learnt a lot in the academy. As a result, I became a better person and began to trust, believe and have confidence in myself more. Apart from the musical techniques and business that we were taught there, it made me to evolve and pursue my music career, learning the basics of good music. I also learnt from other people and also identified my weaknesses and strengths. “My most cherished moment was when I met Banky W, and 2Face because of what they said and all the advice they gave us. I cherish that moment because we got the opportunity to meet great people who shared their stories with us. They gave me hope all over and created the belief that I can be who I am even though life is hard.” On what inspired her to be part of Project Fame, she notes that she has always loved to sing since she was a little girl. In the church and foundation schools, she sang and continued the trend till she released her first single, ‘Gospel on Da Beat’, in 2010. These were part of the experiences that encouraged her to attend the Project Fame audience. She has no regret participating and she respects the decision of the judges and the audience who ruled that Geofrey is the best. According to her, he simply deserved to win. “Project Fame is a beautiful idea. It is a platform money can’t buy. It provides young talented people with the opportunity to display and unveil their talents and go for their dreams and pursue them. Whoever wants to try out should first believe in themselves and accept whatever comes out,” she adds. On possible romantic connections during and after the show, Ruky says she is still as single as she went into the competition. She declares that she is romantic and loves to be loved but notes that no guys have been coming to pester her hearts since she left the Project Fame house, which sold her face and talents to millions of viewers. Her plan is to work on her first album, although she wants to be known as a strong female motivator, singer, writer and actress who will make an impact on the society. To be able to appeal to a larger audience within Nigeria, she aims to learn Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba.
