Boko Haram insurgents have threatened to burn down customs/government buildings in the area as well as attack Fotokol High School in Northern Cameroon. Based on reports from Yahoo News:
The school is just 300 metres (about 1,000 feet)
away from Gamboru, separated by only a small river, and there are no fences or security for the nearly 600 students who attend the school.
“We have a phobia, the danger is always there…When we are in class, we are always keeping watch on the windows. We can never fully concentrate because we are afraid,” said Boris Bouba, a student of the school.
The school headmaster,Jean Felix Nyioto, has also expressed concerns about the safety of students and staff at the school.
“At any moment gunfire crackles on the other side, but also from time to time here in Fotokol,” he said.
As a result of the threats Boko Haram has made about attacking the school and the town, about 300 soldiers and paramilitary officers have reportedly been deployed in Fotokol to provide security for residents and allow children to safely attend school.
